In an attempt to increase enforcement, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development started the Fair Housing Initiatives Program “Private Enforcement Initiative,” through which grants are provided to independent organizations to expand and semi-privatize Fair Housing Enforcement. There are now hundreds of organizations that investigate potential FHA violations1.
